In my opinion the best frosting you can make:
1 cup sugar
3 egg whites
1 cup crisco
1/2 lb (2 cups) powdered sugar
dash of salt
2 tsp. vanilla
*make sure all pans, whips, untensils, that come into contact with the egg whites are squeky clean, or egg whites will not whip up well. Mix sugar and egg whites in top of double broiler. Cook over low/med heat (not too high or you will have scrambled eggs) stirring constantly until sugar melts. Set aside and let cool. In a big bowl, whip remaining ingredients until smooth. Be sure to scrape bottom of bowl a couple of times. Whip first mixture until fluffy*(nice and thick); add to second mixture and whip until well blended. Frosting freezes well.
